Related Studies:
  • The Cross-County Metro MIS/DEIS is currently in its final stages and considering a light rail passenger service from Morrisville, Bucks County to Glenloch, Chester County with a majority of its alignment on existing railroad rights-of-way and a portion on existing roadways. Coordination between the SVM MIS/DEIS and Cross-County MIS/DEIS projects will be considered since the proposed alignments for each project overlap in the King of Prussia to Norristown alignment area.
  • The Route 100 Extension Feasibility Study (Norristown Line) examined the extension of Route 100 from the existing Hughes Park station to King of Prussia and Port Kennedy. This extension will be included as a component to alternatives developed for the SVM MIS/DEIS.
  • The Quakertown Regional Rail Study is examining the extension of the R5 Landsdale/Doylestown Line to Quakertown. In addition, the study is examining the possibility of activating the Stony Creek corridor to connect the R5 - Lansdale/Doylestown Line, the R6 - Norristown line, and the SEPTA's Route 100 High Speed Line in Norristown. (Note: the Route 100 High Speed Line is a SEPTA operated light rail service between SEPTA's 69th Street Terminal in Upper Darby and Norristown. The previously mentioned SR 100 is a state highway connecting West Chester (Chester County), Pottstown (Montgomery County), and the Allentown area (Lehigh County).)
  • The State Route 23 Relocation Study would start from the unfinished Schuylkill Parkway in Bridgeport and head west adjacent to the Norfolk Southern main line past Abrams Yard. The goal of the study is to determine the feasibility of connecting the Schuylkill River Parkway to the Port Kennedy area and to US Route 422 at the Valley Forge Interchange. The proposed alignment of the new road is, for part of its length, directly adjacent to the most likely SVM alignment and may conflict in narrow areas. However, an improved roadway alignment and intersection treatment would provide enhanced access to the proposed Port Kennedy station.
  • A Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Study is being conducted by Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission to lay the groundwork for TOD at five key stations that are proposed for by MetroRail.
Other studies in the SVM corridor include:
  • The Berks County Planning Commission's study along the US Route 422 corridor throughout Berks County
  • Amity Township, Berks County traffic study along US Route 422 in its jurisdiction
  • Pennsylvania Turnpike Improvements - Study currently underway to determine if the turnpike should be widened from 4 to 6 lanes between Valley Forge and Norristown, Interchanges 24 and 25, and the Northeast Extension between Norristown and Lansdale.
  • Benjamin Franklin Parkway Redesign
Ongoing Transportation Projects Within SVM Corridor
  • US Route 202/US Route 422 interchange improvements including lane widenings, bridge replacements and new ramps; US Route 202 & US Route 422 connection to I-76; and US Route 202 widenings and other improvements in Chester County from US Route 30 to Old Eagle School Road
  • I-76 interchange construction at Henderson Road
  • Old Betzwood Bridge replacement over the Schuylkill River including exclusive pedestrian/bicyclist pathway
  • ADA accessibility improvements at the Elm Street, Spring Mill, Ivy Ridge and Bala Regional Rail stations
  • Congestion Mitigation Strategies to support the US Route 202 improvements including bus shuttles and rail service improvements
  • Girard Avenue Surface Rail Restoration Project to restore the Route 15 trolley
  • Schuylkill River Trail Extension
